Laser Rejuvenation 101: What the Alma Harmony Platform Actually Treats

“Laser treatment” gets used as a catch-all term, but it actually covers a wide range of concerns, technologies, and outcomes. We get enough general questions about what our laser services actually do that it’s worth a real overview — not just the specific deep-dives we’ve written on individual concerns.

One platform, several distinct technologies

At JS Wellness, we use the Alma Harmony platform, which combines three separate laser and light-based technologies in one system: IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) for pigmentation and redness, Q-switched laser for deeper pigment and tattoo removal, and fractional laser for texture and overall skin renewal. This matters because it means one consultation and one provider can address multiple concerns, rather than needing a different machine — or a different provider — for each one.

What IPL actually treats

IPL uses broad-spectrum light to target pigment in the skin, making it effective for sun damage, age spots, freckles, rosacea-related redness, and broken capillaries. It works by heating and breaking down excess pigment or targeting the blood vessels causing visible redness, which the body then naturally clears over the following weeks.

What Q-switched laser actually treats

This technology uses extremely short, high-energy pulses to target pigment more precisely and at a deeper level than IPL — making it the right tool for stubborn dark spots, certain birthmarks, and tattoo removal. Tattoo removal specifically requires multiple sessions, since the laser breaks ink down gradually over a series of treatments rather than in one visit.

What fractional laser actually treats

Fractional laser creates microscopic treatment zones across the skin, stimulating collagen production and improving overall texture, fine lines, and scarring — including acne scarring — without the extended downtime of older, fully ablative laser technologies.

And laser hair removal, the most commonly requested service

Using targeted light energy to damage hair follicles at the root, laser hair removal reduces hair growth over a series of sessions, since hair grows in cycles and only actively growing follicles respond to treatment at any given time. Most patients need multiple sessions spaced several weeks apart for lasting results.

Why the consultation matters more than the marketing

Your skin type, tone, and the specific concern you’re treating all affect which technology and settings are appropriate — this isn’t one-size-fits-all, and using the wrong settings for your skin can mean disappointing results or unnecessary irritation. A proper consultation and skin assessment is where a laser plan actually starts.
